Toys as a tourist attraction

From La Colina de Charly, we are going to propose a family trip through the interior of the Costa Blanca, specifically in what is known as the Valley of the toys, which will take us from Onil to Ibi.

Both adults and children can enjoy this excursion because we have all been children and while adults will remember many of the games and toys that amused us in our tender childhood, the little ones will discover that fun is not only on the screens, playing with different pieces depending on the time period, materials, technological advances, etc.

We start at the Doll Museum of Onil in Avenida de la Paz, nº 2. Admission is free, but advance booking is required. There you will find a large collection of 1,200 dolls, from the 18th century to the present day. Jewels of our childhood, such as the Mariquita Pérez, remembered by post-war girls, or the Nancys for the Babyboom generation, without forgetting the more than 10,000 pieces that make up the Great City of Playmobi ESSENTIAL

Another option in Onil is the Paola Reina’s Dolls Factory, which They offer one of the most extensive and varied doll catalogues in the world, from classic collectible dolls to current and modern dolls, dolls with mechanisms, educational babies… A dramatised visit shows the complete handcrafted process of creating a doll.

We finish our tour of the village of Las Muñecas in the Natural Space Casa Tápena, which houses one of the largest plant mazes formed by Cypress trees in Europe, a total of 7,056 m². Inside there is a cedar tree, a pond and an intercommunication game for children. There is also a recreational area for the enjoyment of the family. More info

We go to Ibi, the dream of any child: the town in Spain with the most toy factories. In its golden age, there were more than 70 factories, which produced some of the most popular toys in the country: prams, kitchenettes, table football and dolls.

The Valencian Toy Museum of Ibi is located in what was the first toy factory, the Payà. It has a permanent room in which some 450 toys are displayed, from 1903 to the 1980s. The temporary room of the museum hosts periodical exhibitions that are worth seeing.

In addition, in Ibi we can walk along its urban route of themed parks with swings, slides and games where we can find Pocoyó, a pirate ship, the Three Kings’ camels, the TV clowns, dragons and even the tartana, the first toy manufactured by the Payá brothers.

In order to talk about Ibi and all that this town in Alicante has to offer for families, in Escápate al interior we talked to Dolores Pérez, manager of the Hotel del Juguete in Ibi.
